Crypta is the name given by Mathieu Dufois to the work he has created in the corridors and bedrooms of floors 1 to 3 of the Drawing House. The artist invites you on a nocturnal forest expedition. In the drawings, created in black chalk, animals appear, either alone or in herds, as do trees and vegetation that seem to be startled by the gentle light of a torch. These images are the result of the artist’s own wanderings in the Lascaux forest, near the prehistoric caves. The contrasts, the points of view and also the blurring caused by movement give the drawings an arresting realism: they resemble photographs.
